Betty Joyce Watts Obituary

Betty Joyce Gebhard Watts, 90, of Grandview, Texas, passed away March 14, 2016. She was born in Aledo, Texas, to Gus Evans and Bessie Fay (Medford) Milburn on July 6, 1925. She was the daughter in a family of six children and raised on Milburn Ranch in Cresson, Texas.

Betty was an avid horsewoman and won competitions in barrel racing and square dancing on horses. She also tended cattle until 1985. She was fun, full of life and traveled extensively. Her greatest passion was her love of family and children. She was a practical woman with common sense. She could repair all sorts of things, even her farming equipment.

She met and married her high school sweetheart, Ernest "Skipper" Watts, from Godley, Texas, when he returned from World War II in 1945 after a four-year tour in the Pacific. They celebrated 45 years of marriage and had two children, Royce "Skip" Arch Watts and Kristy Ann Mackey.

Following the death of her husband, she met and married Norbert Gebhard, who was a retired manager from General Dynamics in Fort Worth. He was a highly decorated B-24 Liberator pilot with over 50 missions in the European Theatre World War II.

Many will remember Betty from the Beauty Bar in Alvarado which she owned and operated in the 1970s or Nolan River Country Club where she enjoyed golfing.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. March 18 in the Pavilion at the Grandview Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. March 17 Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home.

Survivors include her children, Dr. Royce Watts and Kristy Ann Watts Mackey; sister, Sue Milburn Gouaux; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by husband Earnest Arch Watts and her second husband, Norbert N. Gebhard.
