Floyd Wesley Mitchell, 87, of Alvarado, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Harris Southwest Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Floyd was born in Hollis, Oklahoma, on November 9, 1929, son of Elbert & Mary Mitchell.
Floyd joined the Marine corps in 1947 and served with The First Signal Battalion of the 1st Marine Division ranked as Corporal. He served in China from April 15, 1948 to February 25, 1949 as a radio operator and pistol marksman. After leaving the Marines he settled in Arlington, Texas with his wife Nancy Rice. He took early retirement from General Motors and bought a farm in Alvarado to pursue his passion of raising cattle.
He is survived by five children and their spouses; Leta and Carl Miller, Pamela and Lee Shaw, Rocky Mitchell, Charlie and Lisa Mitchell, and Jeff and Sonhui Mitchell, twelve grandchildren and their spouses; Daniel and Deborah Mitchell, Charlcye Mitchell, Chase and Arlie Mitchell, Cayce and Keith Hobizal, Kristy and Thomas Shaw, Dennis and Rachell Miller, David and Shelly Miller, Libby and Andy Taylor, Sam Mitchell, Amelia Mitchell, and Leah and Larry Handy, and eleven great grandchildren; River Stone, Emma, Loren and Luke Mitchell, Landen Mitchell, Brigham Hobizal, Alex Handy, Eowyn and Hagan Miller, Landon Miller, Amelia Miller, Ethan Miller, Rosie and Henry Taylor.
