Troy Eugene York went to be with our Lord on the 28th of October after a long courageous battle with Leukemia.
Services will be held at 11am on Monday, October 31st at The First United Methodist Church in Grandview, TX.
Troy was born at home on New Year's Day of 1942 to Dennis and Opal York. Troy was known by many names including Genie, Trig, Big Troy, Big T, Troy Boy, and Dad, but his favorite name to go by was Poppy. He graduated from Grandview High School in 1961 and was a proud member of the Zebra football team. He later attended North Texas State University before starting a 30 year career at General Motors. He retired at the age of 53 to dedicate his life to serving the community in honor of his Lord. He did so by visiting with those in need and volunteering his spare time at his churches.
As Troy got older, he created a bucket list that he made his way through. Most notably, jumping out of an airplane at age 70. Troy leaves behind a legacy of many small generous acts that made huge impacts on the lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dennis and Opal York, brother Dennis Hue York, mother-in-law Della Aldridge, his good friend and brother-in-law Bobby Aldridge, and nephew Lance Aldridge.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sharon York, his daughter Alisa O'Neill, son Troy York and fiance Laura, granddaughters Lauren O'Neill and Della York, sister Betty Magby and husband Don, sister-in-law Mary Aldridge, nieces Becky Abshire and Bee Smith, numerous other friends and family, and his faithful companion, Hank.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Grandview or The Grandview Cemetery Association.
The family will receive friends at the first United Methodist Church, located at 300 S. 4th Street, Grandview, Texas 76050 (817)866-3636 on Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
