Mildred Elwyn Bramblett

On Wednesday night June 12, 2019 in Memphis, TN, a wonderful lady escaped her mortal body that had challenged her for many years and went to her heavenly reward. Mildred Elwyn Bramblett, 86, was born October 5, 1932 in Georges Creek, TX, the first born of Clarence T. and Mildred White Hewlett. She graduated co-valedictorian of Cleburne High School with the class of '49 at the tender age of 16. She headed off to Denton and Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman's University) to begin her quest to become a teacher. On March 17, 1951, Elwyn married the love of her life, Billy Carl Bramblett... a marriage that would last for 41 years until his passing at the far-too-young age of 61.

Shortly after their marriage, and with the threat of being drafted for the Korean war, Billy Carl enlisted in the US Navy to become a Training Deviceman. His career took them to places such as San Diego, Jacksonville, Corpus Christi, Kingsville, and a city they fell in love with -- Memphis, TN. Along the way, Elwyn completed her education at Memphis State, completing BS and M.Ed degrees in elementary education. Her proudest achievements were teaching special-needs children in inner-city schools.

Elwyn had a great thirst for knowledge, becoming adept at hat making, ceramics, Battenberg Lace making, doll making, creative writing, and water aerobics. Many skills were self-taught such as garment making, crocheting, counted cross-stitch, and embroidery. In later years before Parkinson took its toll, she volunteered at church to take other members to church, doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, and well-being checks. She was also a keynote speaker for several ladies' programs at Church.

Elwyn, a member of the Cordova Church of Christ, was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents , and her brothers Dennis and Jack Hewlett. She is survived by daughters Susan Coffman and husband Rick of Memphis, and Janet Lockwood of Fort Worth, TX; son Stephen and wife Annette of Huntsville, AL; brother Michael and wife Jan of Patuxent River, MD; and sister Donna Edwards and husband Donnie of Meridian, TX. Her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren include Michael Coffman and wife Kara; Jennifer Coffman and daughters Alexandra and Sophia Konieczny; Shana Lawson, husband Jeremy, and daughter Ella; Carl Bramblett; Ashley Bielstein and sons Payton, Nicholas, and Cameron Hanson; and Adam Bielstein and daughter Kylee.
