Linda Jayne Layne Johnson, age 73, of Melvin, Texas passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 at Winters Park Nursing Home in Garland, Texas.
She was born July 27, 1943 in Paris, Texas to Ralph H. Layne and Mildred Janet (Fagen) Layne. She was the middle of 3 daughters. Her father served in the U S Army, and continued to serve following World War II. She has thus lived in several places; Germany, Hawaii, Washington D C, and finally is El Paso, Texas. There she finished high school and attended Texas Western College (now UTEP).
Linda was raised in the Methodist church and in 1963 changed and was baptized into the First Baptist Church of El Paso. Linda married Jim Johnson on September 28, 1963 in El Paso, Texas.
Linda was a homemaker, a quilter, and has worked as a church secretary twice and as a receptionist at a Cleburne nursing home. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. The family resided in Cleburne for 23+ years. The last home was in Melvin, Texas.
Funeral services for Linda Johnson will be held Friday, April 14, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Evangelical Free Church of Melvin, Texas with Reverend Mark Nygard officiating. Interment will follow at the Melvin Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady. Linda is survived by her husband Jim Johnson of the home; sons Jay Johnson and wife Jill of Wellington, Colorado and Nathan Johnson and wife Tammy of Sachse, Texas; older sister Sheila Muzzy of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Linda was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister Marsha Morgan. Memorial contributions in memory of Linda Jayne (Layne) Johnson may be made to the charity of choice.
