John Wayne Finnell, Sr.


John Wayne Finnell, Sr. passed away May 17, 2019 in Cleburne, Texas.
A memorial Service will be held Saturday June 15, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home 512 N. Ridgeway Dr, Cleburne, TX 76033
Interment service will be Monday June 17, 2019 at 2:30 PM at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211
Johnny was born in Dallas and grew up in Cleburne attending Cleburne public schools. He joined the Army and served a tour of duty in the 24th Armored Engineering Battalion in Germany. While studying Engineering at Arlington State University (now UT Arlington) he worked as a machinist in the DFW area including family owned Finnell Machining Company in Fort Worth. He later worked in engineering at Lockheed Martin in Irving Texas followed by a long career at Brunswick Defense Division in Costa Mesa, California. After retirement from Brunswick, Johnny continued to work as a consultant in the Defense and Aerospace industry completing his last assignment in January, 2018 at the age of 77.
He is survived by his former wife Ann Haenel Finnell of Cleburne, and three children John Wayne Finnell, Jr. and wife Melinda of Cleburne, Carl Vaughn Finnell and wife Suzanne of Melissa and Dana Renee Thompson of Porter, Texas, his siblings Anna Rhea Pool and husband Bill of Dallas, Donald L. Finnell and wife Cindy of Cleburne, Michael J. Finnell of Enid, Oklahoma and grandchildren John Austin, Colin, Wesley and Brianne Finnell, Courtney and Braden Thompson plus a number of nieces and nephews.
Johnny was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Roberta "Bobbie" Finnell of Costa Mesa, California and his parents Bill and Gladys Finnell of Blum and Cleburne.
Memorials may be made to the John W. Finnell, Sr. Scholarship Fund, 2136 CR 427A, Cleburne, Texas 76031.
