Herbie Lee Stone, 102, retired educator and community activist, died September 29, 2016
Visitation: 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at St. Paul CME Church, 507 Royal St. in Cleburne.
Funeral : 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Burial: Greenlawn Cemetery
Herbie was born February 20, 1914 to Ferrell C. Phillips, Sr. and Leatha Webster Phillips. She attended the Cleburne public schools, and earned degrees at Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas.
A longtime member of St. Paul CME Church, she served as President of the Stewardess Board, and Women's Missionary Society and a Class Leader.
Mrs. Stone taught in the schools at Venus and Alvarado, worked at Alaco Insurance and the Howell Fashion Store in Cleburne. She served as a Pink Lady at Walls Regional Hospital for 18 yrs. before retiring (at age 96).
She was preceded in death by husbands, Alfred Johns and Elmo Stone.
Her survivors include nephew, Marvin Rodney Robinson, Jr. (Carolyn);grand niece, Stephanie G. Rivers; great grandnephew, Jibri A. Hawkins; cousins, Evelyn Bly, Lucille Curl, Jan Margaret Spriggs, James Clay, Ann Jehi, Mary Davidson and Ruby Johnson.
