Charles "Eli" Cooper went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017.
Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, in the Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park Fort Worth.
Survived by son, Sam Cooper and wife, Karen; daughter, Caren Robertson and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Jennifer Disney, Melani Skinner, Gary Vassar, Wes Vassar, Angi Vassar, Ben Cooper, Will Cooper and Taylor Cooper; seven great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Debi Vassar; and many other loving extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Cooper, and son, Gary Vassar.
He was a committed grandfather, father and friend. Eli was a champion for the underdog, a loyal friend to all. He loved all things related to the railroad after serving as an engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad for nearly 50 years. He served our country in the Navy during WWII. Mr. Cooper cared for neighborhood animals and especially loved his own chihuahua, Sophie.
Eli was a fan of all sports, most especially Cowboys football. He also enjoyed entertaining others with jokes, spending time with family, playing cards, dice, and going to the horse races. He thought of others before himself and was quick to help anyone in need. He was "Papa" to many and loved by all who knew him.
